Patch Picks: Fabulous Fourth of July Recipes

Some recipes to add to your Fourth of July fiesta.

It’s the Fourth of July weekend — a time when barbeques abound and patriotic sweets are encouraged. So, to help you prepare for your bash in Potomac, we compiled a few recipes that are great additions to any Independence Day party.

1. BBQ Pork Spare Ribs

This recipe from the Food Network’s website ranks “easy” and makes ribs that are finger-lickin’ good. For this recipe, season both sides of a pork rib slab with the special barbeque seasoning and refrigerate for at least 24 hours. After cooking for about 3 and a half hours add some more barbeque sauce to extra flavor.

2. Antipasto Salad Recipe

Enhance any potluck with this pasta salad recipe that is fresh tasting, colorful and easy. For this recipe, prepare the pasta and add the other ingredients including ripe olives, sliced pepperoni, green peppers, mushrooms and more. Refrigerate the mixture 6 hours or overnight and viola — a  delicious pasta salad perfect for the Fourth.

3. Barbequed Beans

Beans, beans, the magical fruit, the more you eat the more you… enjoy your Fourth of July Party! Use this classic recipe to complement burgers, hot dogs or ribs. For this simple recipe, combine all the ingredients and grill for 15 to 20 minutes.

4. Red, White and Blue Cocktails

This July 4, let the fireworks go off in your mouth by adding blue Pop Rocks to the rim of your drinks. Give the drink a patriotic touch by making cranberry juice (with or without alcohol) and seltzer. 

5. Lemon-Berry Shortcake

Satisfy guests’ sweet tooth with this delicious shortcake recipe. The shortcake has some strawberries mixed in and a topping with whipped cream, strawberries and blueberries if you choose. This contest-winning recipe serves eight people.
