UPDATE: Pepco Reports Power Outages in Potomac

Outages are reduced to 25 customers without power following Sunday's thunderstorm.

Update, 8:27 a.m.: Power has been restored to many of Potomac's Pepco customers who lost power following Sunday's intense storm.

Pepco reports that 25 customers in Zip code 20854 are without power this morning. Power is expected to be restored between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. today.

The outages appear to be isolated in the following neighborhoods: Hunting Ridge Court, Trailridge Court, Trailridge Drive, Winterset Terrace, and Glen Road at Gregerscroft Road.

Bob Hainey, Pepco media relations manager, said that as customers wake up or return home from work, they will realize whether or not they have power.

"The outages will fluctuate—depend on customers to give us a call." he said.

The primary cause is occurring with underground cable faults. Hainey said that crews have to trace each fault to isolate the problem, which requires investigation—manhole to manhole.

"We have to trace it [problem]. Get in manhole and find out what the problem is—could be the wire was compromised in some shape or form," Hainey said, adding that these kinds of problems take longer to repair.

Original post, Aug. 14, 11:23 p.m.: Severe weather in the area has left more than 400 Potomac residents, including those along Seven Locks Road, without power, according to Pepco's StormCenter map.
