Photo of the Day: 'God Was With Us'

Tuesday's earthquake shook and rattled Potomac UMC, yet the steeple and organ are safe and intact.

I took this photo of the steeple against Monday's beautiful, blue sky. Such a striking image warranted documentation.

And then on Tuesday, the D.C. region experienced an historic earthquake. The photo of the steeple was still in my camera waiting for its moment to be published. But before I could post on Potomac Patch, I needed to confirm that the church's steeple was intact—that it didn't sustain damage from the 5.8-magnitude earthqauake.

So I spoke with Bobbie Wolman, administrative assistant at the church, and she cheerfully reported that all is well.

"We were very fortunate. It [earthquake] was just a big rumble and shake—and then we were fine." Wolman said.

She remembered that a wedding was scheduled for this weekend, and said that an inspection of the church, including the organ, was done. No damages to report so far.

At the time of the earthquake, 15 staff members—including Pastor Ann Laprade—were in the parish center.

"God was with us that day," Wolman said.
