Power Outages Increase In Potomac

Hurricane Sandy could leave more than 10 million in its path without power.

Updated 6:30 p.m.: As Hurricane Sandy advances into Montgomery County, Potomac is starting to see the effects in power outages.

More than 1,000 customers were without power in the Potomac area at 6:30 p.m. Monday, making it one of the most affected areas of Montgomery County, according to the Pepco storm map.

Estimated times of restoration were not available Monday afternoon.

After June's derecho storm, Potomac saw some of the most prolonged power outages in the area, due to a large grid and extensive tree fall.

A computer model developed by a Johns Hopkins University engineer, predicts as many as 10 million people in the path of Hurricane Sandy could lose power as a result of the storm.
