Strawberry Festival Brings Desserts, Activities to Potomac for 21st Year

The Potomac United Methodist Church is hosting their annual Strawberry Festival on Saturday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.

, presented annually by the members of is a true sign that summer is just around the corner.

The event — now in its 21st year — will follow tradition and feature homemade strawberry shortcake, a chic boutique of “gently used” brand labels, a silent auction and an array of unique vendors. The event, which is free to attend,will be at the church’s parish center from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Saturday.

"This is the only fundraiser that Potomac United Methodist Church holds during the year to raise funds to support their mission work," said Renee Antosh, who is coordinating the event. "The charities we give to change every year, but they are all local."

The proceeds from the event support more than 20 charities in the area, including Stepping Stones ShelterManna HouseFor the Love of ChildrenChild Savers and Courtney’s House.

Here are some of the events and activities that will be part of the Strawberry Festival this year that will be fun for the whole family, Antosh said.

  • Shop at Vendor Alley: Get distinctive women’s and children’s clothing, custom-made and “knock-off” jewelry, French linens, hand-painted china and stylish items for your home. There will be 25 different vendors including The Jeans Whisperer, Cara’s Creations, Razzle Dazzle, Clothes Hound, Alexandra Beth Designs, The Cottage Money and Bejio Handbags.
  • Browse the Home Treasures Department: Find home furnishings and estate sale pieces at discount prices.
  • Bid in the Silent Auction: There will be three giant rooms with silent auction items including theme baskets, restaurant gift certificates, sports tickets, vacation home visits and travel adventures.
  • Buy baked goods: Bring home some homemade pies, cakes and cookies from the Bake Sale. Also, “Cupcake Corner” will offer delicious homemade chocolate, espresso, cream-filled and strawberry-themed cupcakes.
  • Stop by the Chic Boutique: Get nearly new clothing for women and children at a great price.
  • Try the dessert: Every year crowds rush to the festival to devour the homemade Strawberry Shortcake dessert topped with ice cream and homemade whipped cream. Also, make sure you grab lunch with options like hotdogs, hamburgers and pulled pork sandwiches.
