Water Main Break at River Rd. and Bradley Blvd.

The 8-inch water main broke shortly before 9 a.m. on Tuesday.

Update, Tuesday, March 19, 2:30 p.m.:

All lanes of River Road between Bradley Boulevard and Persimmon Tree Road were to remain closed through the evening commute, Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission Spokesperson Kira Lewis told Patch.

An 8-inch water main broke near the intersection of River Road and Bradley Boulevard in Potomac shortly before 9 a.m. on Tuesday, March 19.

Crews were on the scene Tuesday morning to shut the water down and begin repairs. River Road was closed between Bradley Boulevard and Falls Road, Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission Spokesperson Kira Lewis told Patch.

WSSC won't have a final tally of customers affected until the shutdown has been completed, Lewis said.

This area is no stranger to water main breaks. In December 2008, a massive water main break near the intersection of River Road near Fenway Road (just a few blocks to the southeast of Tuesday's water main break) trapped 15 motorists and their passengers, The Gazette reported.
