Week In Review: Alleged Pipe Bomber Arrested, Brickyard Road Public Meeting and a Visit from the Ambassador of Paraguay

This is week’s news in Potomac has centered around the arrest of a man in connection with the pipe bomb that detonated outside a local mansion, a public meeting about the future of the land on Brickyard Road and the implications of a government shutdown. 

Many Montgomery County residents got a chance to express their opinions about the future of a and their discontent with the government’s process at a . Montgomery County plans to turn the Brickyard Road property, which is currently organic farmland, into soccer fields. The meeting was the first opportunity for many residents to express their support or opposition of the soccer fields. However, many expressed frustration that their opinions were not taken into consideration in Montgomery County’s process until this point

On Thursday, Fire and Explosive Investigators from Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service worked with Virginia State Police to believed to be responsible for a outside of a Potomac mansion on Inglewood Drive on March 16. Police identified Farzin Sadeghi — who resides in a Marshall, Va., and Gaithersburg, Md. — early on as a suspect and obtained search warrants for his residences.

Other top news this week revolved around the possibly federal government shutdown. Although it was close, Congress came to an agreement in time to prevent furloughs of thousands of workers and the services they provide — . Also this week in Potomac, the Ambassador of Paraguay, Rigoberto Gauto Vielman stopped the this week to share some information about Paraguay and their Bicentennial Celebration, which will take place in May. The Rotary Club of Potomac hopes do a future project in Paraguay to help with restoring clean water or education, said President of the Rotary Club of Potomac Jeanna Richter.
