Week in Review: Fourth of July Preparations, Brickyard Input Extension and New Superintendent

This week in Potomac the community prepared for the Fourth of July weekend, welcomed a new Montgomery County Public Schools superintendent and learned about ways to include their opinions in the Brickyard Road Soccer Field Project.

This past week, Montgomery County for the Brickyard Road Soccer Field Project’s Request for Proposal (RFP). E-mail input was originally due to the county by June 30, but the county pushed it to Sept. 1 to give people enough time to submit their ideas, said Kassa Seyoum, the project manager. The RFP will be prepared for solicitation of private non-profit developers.

MCPS ended a chapter with Superintendent Jerry Weast’s retirement on Thursday, but started a new one on Friday with Joshua Starr, who took over the reigns at the largest school system in Maryland. Weast’s last day had added significance as MCPS , which is the highest presidential honor an American organization can receive for excellence in innovation, improvement and visionary leadership.

, he released a welcome message with his priorities like meeting with staff, students, parents and community members about improvements that can be made within the school system.
