Week in Review: School Modernizations and Brickyard Road Soccer Field Project

This week, Potomac said goodbye to two schools — and . Both schools will undergo modernization in the coming school year.

On Tuesday evening, community members stopped by Beverly Farms to say their final goodbyes at the The school will be torn down and rebuilt over the next 18 months.

Potomac residents said their final goodbyes to Herbert Hoover Middle School on Wednesday evening as the The school, which opened in 1965, will undergo modernization during the 2011-2012 and 2012-2013 school years. The new middle school is scheduled to open in August 2013.

Potomac residents got an inside look at what could look like in the future at a Representatives from the Montgomery County Public Schools Division of Construction as well as architects from BerryRio Architects and Interiors presented proposed designs for the “new” Wayside Elementary School, which is scheduled to be under the modernization process during the 2014 through 2016 school years.

On Thursday evening, many concerned citizens had an on the Request For Proposal (RFP) that will go out for the 20-acre plot of land on Brickyard Road, yet many said they felt county officials were still circumventing the appropriate government process.

At the meeting, attendees could voice their opinions, concerns or questions about the project in the gymnasium of the . They could also choose to break up into smaller groups to talk about details that should be included in the RFP. The comments received during the meeting could be part of the draft of the RFP that will be prepared for solicitation of private non-profit developers.
