Week in Review: Weather Woes, Basketball Playoffs and ICC Opening

A look back at the top new from Feb. 19 though Feb. 26.

It’s been a news-filled week in Potomac, so let’s take a look back at some of the major news in the community, which was dominated by Churchill sports, weather ups and downs and the ICC opening.

This Monday was Presidents Day and brought about an unexpected snowfall that caused Montgomery County Public Schools and many private schools to on Tuesday. 

Monday’s snow even delayed the opening of the ICC — a road that will link Interstate 370 and Interstate 95. Representatives from Montgomery and Prince George’s counties, along with state legislators, joined Gov. O’Malley in , however commuters were not able to travel the road until Tuesday.

With that winter weather reminder, it only seemed natural to top it off with local power outages, as well. On Friday, high winds blew through the area and.

Outages in Potomac Village didn’t stop one local art show though. When power went out at the Art Gallery of Potomac before , patrons still came and viewed the work by lantern instead.

It’s been another exciting week for the Churchill basketball teams. The state and determined that the Churchill boys earned a No. 3 seed in the 4A West and a bye to the second round, where they will play Walter Johnson — which was determined when Walter Johnson beat Northwest on Saturday. The Lady Bulldogs got the No. 11 seed and will play No. 6 Paint Branch.

Also this week, the boys' varsity basketball team celebrated the — Jordan Bass, Will Lewis and Jesse Simon — during Tuesday evening's game against Paint Branch. They won the game 69-59 and finished the regular season with a record of 17-5.
