The DC area now has its own Ben & Jerry's ice cream flavor: Capitol Chill, chocolate ice cream with Divine Chocolate cornflake clusters, marshmallow and caramel swirls and a Route 11 Sweet Potato Chip, the company announced last weekend.

"Ben & Jerry’s has been tabulating activities throughout the area such as public transportation data, tweets, traffic patterns, local ingredients and, of course, the votes of the people, to create and ultimately name a [Washington, DC-inspired] Ben & Jerry’s flavor," according to a company statement. A ballot was set up on the company's website where ice cream aficionados could vote for favorite flavors and ingredients.

The flavor was available only at a special event over the weekend, but DCist reported that "if there's enough interest the company may consider releasing the flavor to the masses. This would take about a year to accomplish," Sean Greenwood, Ben and Jerry's head of public relations, said. DCist also reported that "local franchise owners may also choose to carry the flavor in their stores."
