Montgomery County Residents Donate 1,000s of Gifts

Thousands of gifts from Montgomery County are on their way to children who otherwise might not receive a gift this holiday season.

Operation Christmas Child’s recent National Collection Week just wrapped up, and thousands of gifts from Montgomery County are on their way to children who otherwise might not receive a holiday gift.

"Through Operation Christmas Child, the world’s largest Christmas project of its kind, local volunteers collected more than 2,400 gifts at the Silver Spring collection site and 600 in Bethesda. More than 10,700 were collected at the regional Rockville Collection Center," according to a statement from Samaritan's Purse, the organization running Operation Christmas Child.

"The shoeboxes’ journey to children has just begun. Volunteers will be working in the coming weeks to prepare, package and transport the 7.2 million gifts collected ... across the United States to their final destination," the statement added.
