Shenandoah Welcomes Autumn With Apple Butter Celebration

Head out to Shenandoah National Park, only two hours from the DC Metro region, to welcome fall on Saturday.

Want to welcome autumn with some mountain air? Then head down to the Shenandoah National Park where on Saturday the Skyland Resort will host its 13th annual Apple Butter Celebration.

Beyond the sweet spread, visitors can enjoy the sound of bluegrass music, the park's natural beauty, a wine tasting, food and children's activities and crafts.

“Nothing says autumn like apple butter and fall foliage,” Helen Morton, director of sales and marketing for Shenandoah National Park lodging said. “Making apple butter is an American fall tradition with the whole family pitching in."

Starting at dawn, the celebration will begin with lighting fires and filling the copper kettles with apple butter ingredients. Entertainment will begin at 9:45 a.m.

Resort chefs will prepare grilled chicken with apple salsa, pork ribs with apple barbeque sauce, cobbler, caramel apples, cider and other fall-fruit themed delights and visitors can take home kettle-fresh apple butter.

The event ends at 5 p.m.

The Skyland Resort is located at mile 41.7 on Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park, VA. Although the event is free, there's a $15 fee to enter the national park.
