Sisterhood Gives Back to the Community

The Washington Hebrew Congregation Sisterhood will hold their 25th annual Holiday Boutique and Silent Auction this weekend, starting Dec. 3.

The Washington Hebrew Congregation Sisterhood holds its 25th Annual Holiday Boutique and Silent Auction starting Sunday, Dec. 3, at 10 a.m. at the Julia Bindeman Suburban Center in Potomac, Md.

The event spans three days, with the opening of the boutique on Sunday and a silent auction on Tuesday. Twenty percent of all boutique sales and 100 percent of all silent auction sales go to support local community groups.

Some of the organizations receiving support from this event are Meals on Wheels, Suited for Change and Doctors without Borders.

WHC Sisterhood President Sharyn Glickfield said this is the non-profit group’s largest annual event and required months of preparation.  There are more than 50 vendors attending, with over three hundred items, all from different businesses in the community,” she said. Potential gifts and prizes range from sports tickets and gift certificates to manicures.

The event is usually successful because of Potomac’s strong community ties, Glickfield added. “Even with the economic ups and downs and online shopping, people still come to this event and still want to see the unique items,” Glickfield said. “On the whole, it continues to be a great coming together of our women and community.”

The event will also feature an indoor café at the Julia Bindeman Suburban Center with soup and salads, and a brisket dinner to be served Monday night. On Tuesday night, the Sisterhood will serve anniversary cake at 5 p.m., before the end of the silent auction at 6 p.m. The boutique will close at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
