Lifeguards Honored for Saving Child's Life

Two lifeguards were honored by the county's rescue service for saving a 12-year-old boy from drowning in the pool at the Little Falls Swimming Club on May 29.

Two local lifeguards were honored Saturday for their quick actions in saving the life of a 12-year-old boy who nearly drowned in the pool at the Little Falls Swimming Club on May 29, according to the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service's chief's blog.

Lifeguard Abigail Baruch Fry—a rising junior at Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School—and Pool Manager Colleen Hamm rescued the boy from the bottom of the pool, which is 12 feet deep at the point where he was rescued. The lifeguards administered CPR to the boy, who was transported to a local hospital, the chief's blog reported.

The boy—who didn't know how to swim—recovered, and now is taking swim lessons, the chief's blog added.

The pool (at 5001 Little Falls Dr., Bethesda), meanwhile, has a new rule: Anyone wanting to swim in the 12-foot-deep portion of the pool must take a swimming test, WJLA Channel 7 reported.
