Meet Sassy The Puggle

Sassy is an adorable, fun, and good-natured Puggle in search of a loving family.

Hey Guys! My name is Sassy and I’m an adorable Puggle, a crossbreed of a pug and beagle. I’m a little over three years old and a sturdy 20 pounds. I’m at an ideal age; old enough to know better and able to relax and enjoy companionship, but young enough to have plenty of energy and still want to play. My rescue friends think my name really suits me because I’m the total pup package, all wrapped up in a bundle of cuteness. I’m playful, social, smart, have a well-balanced temperament, and - let’s face it - I’m super cute and, yes, sassy!

Originally, Mutts Matter rescued me from the shelter after Animal Control found me wandering the streets as a stray. I was adopted quickly by a family who I thought would love me and care for me forever, but when my parents stopped getting along, I became a casualty of divorce. Now I find myself back in a foster home through no fault of my own, waiting for my real family to find me. I hope that’s you.

I lucked out and got a really experienced foster dad named Hal. He gets me; he’s fostered over 100 dogs! I’m in great hands here and his home is a fun, dog-friendly place to hang out while I wait for my new family. Hal takes me on regular walks and we go running together. I’m a surprisingly great running partner, walk well on the leash, and I'm crate-trained, too. He also takes the time to introduce me to new situations, helping me learn socialization skills. Just last weekend we attended Potomac Day, and I met tons of new people, kids, and other dogs. I was a little hesitant at first, but I’m a very social pup and did great with all the noises and activity once I got used to things.

My foster home is a hotbed of canine activity. When I first arrived, my fellow Mutts Matter pals, Bart and Eddie were here, and I really enjoyed having them around to play with. I’ve met a lot of other rescue pups since then and have gotten along great with all of them. Check out this video of me playing with some other MMR dogs, Murray and Benji, welcoming them into our pack. I love to play, and prefer having the companionship of another dog. My ideal home would have another pup to hang out with, a fenced yard, and preferably a toy box stocked with a selection of both chewy and plush toys for me to enjoy. I love kids too, but I can be a little nippy when I play and protective of my toys, so really small kids are not the best fit for me, but kids over eight or so would be great, and I will love them wholeheartedly.

Foster dad Hal calls me the perfect companion dog, which I think is pretty obvious. I like to “talk” to him from time to time, and will greet him with a welcoming howl when he comes home, but I’m not loud or boisterous - I just want him to know I missed him. I’m affectionate and love to cuddle, but I’m not a clingy dog either. My favorite spot in the house involves a fuzzy blanket strategically placed on top of the couch. I can hang out up there in total comfort while I watch the humans do their thing, and it’s a great vantage point for watching the squirrels in the back yard too! Sometimes, I’ll curl up on top of my foster dad’s head like a cat and it makes him laugh. I don’t know what’s funny about it; it’s warm and comfortable, and that’s what I’m all about.

So, that’s me in a nutshell.  I’m an active, fun, loving, and social pup who will make a great addition to your family and really need some people to love and commit to me for real this time. Will you be my lifetime companion?
