Update, 9:15 a.m.: Montgomery County Police and Montgomery County Fire and Rescue are investigating an explosion that happened on Inglewood Drive in Potomac on Wednesday evening.

Police found some sort of explosive device on the front of a residence at 9214 Inglewood Dr. with help from neighbors, who reported hearing an explosion around 9:15 p.m. on Wednesday, said Assistant Fire Chief Scott Graham.

When Fire and Rescue and the county’s Hazardous Materials Crew responded, they found that the residence had an unusual odor and that one window had been blown out. Fire and Explosive Investigators as well as bomb technicians later responded to the scene, Graham said.

Investigators found an explosive device that had been placed in the front of the home and detonated, which caused the window to be blown out and minor damage to the interior of the nearest room, Graham said. The exact type of device used to create the explosion is unknown at this time, he added.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue and their Fire and Explosive section will continue to investigate the incident, Graham said.
