Report: Man Sentenced for Thefts from Vehicles in Potomac

Michael B. Dorsey was sentenced this week for a string of thefts from vehicles in the Potomac area in 2011.

The man whom Montgomery County Assistant State’s Attorney Steve Chaikin has described as a "one man crime wave" in the Potomac area has been sentenced to 16-and-a-half years in prison, The Gazette reported.

Michael B. Dorsey was sentenced this past Wednesday and Thursday "in five cases for breaking into cars and using stolen credit cards, causing tens of thousands of dollars of damages and unnerving Potomac residents for more than six months" in 2011. Dorsey may be behind as many as 26 thefts from vehicles, The Gazette added.

Dorsey was arrested on Oct. 21, 2011, by county police. Between March 5 and October 2011, "multiple thefts from vehicles were reported to police. A majority of these thefts occurred in the Falls Road and MacArthur Boulevard areas. Additional thefts were reported in the Old Georgetown Road area of North Bethesda," according to a Montgomery County Police Department news release.
