Montgomery County Police Joins Twitter

The new account won't take the place of other alerts already in place.

In an effort to reach more people in the community Montgomery County Police recently launched, @mcpnews, a twitter account.

The account isn't only a way for media to get information but also to help people keep a tab on activities the police department is hosting, said Montgomery County police spokesman Capt. Paul Starks.

Starks said he attended a recent conference hosting police departments in Milwaukee which influenced him to start a twitter account. They talked about how imperative social media is to communicating with the community you serve and so he knew he had to get create one, Starks added.
