Updated: Montgomery Officials Aid in Potomac Water Rescue

A woman has been recovered from the water and is being evaluated.

Updated Wednesday 10:30 a.m. Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service assisted with a water rescue in the Potomac River near Lock 24 Monday.

At 1:23 p.m. rescue workers were dispatched to assist in the rescue of what appeared to be a person clinging to a tree near the Virginia side of the Potomac River, according to Beth Anne Nesselt of Montgomery County Fire and Rescue.

As of 1:44 p.m. a woman was rescued from the water and was transported to the Maryland side of the river for evaluation, Nesselt said. The victim refused medical assistance and transport to the hospital. She is believed to have been windsurfing at the time of the incident, Nesselt said.
