Motorcyclist Dead After Crash on I-495

Richard Edward Taylor II was driving at a high rate of speed when he crashed, according to Maryland State Police.

A Silver Spring man is dead after crashing his motorcycle into a car on I-495 in College Park late Thursday night, according to Maryland State police.

According to a preliminary investigation, Richard Edward Taylor II, 34, was riding his 2006 Suzuki motorcycle shortly after 10:30 p.m. on the inner loop of I-495 to I-95 at a high rate of speed when he struck the rear right corner of a 2010 Hyundai Sonata.

The impact caused him to veer onto the right shoulder and hit a concrete barrier, according to police. Taylor was then ejected from the motorcycle, police said.

Maryland State Police reported to the scene shortly after the accident. Taylor was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The driver of the Hyundai Sonata, a Bethesda resident, was not injured, according to police.

State troopers closed two eastbound lanes of I-495 for five hours while they investigated the crash and cleared the scene. All lanes are now open and traffic has resumed as normal, police said.
