Patch Asks: Do You Feel Safe?

Recent crime spikes in the area have caused some residents to speak out for their safety. What about you?

Given the recent spike in burglaries around the Potomac area, Patch wants to know if you feel safe.

According to the Potomac Patch posting of police crime reports, 14 burglaries and attempted burglaries were reported in October, and another 10 were reported for the month of September.

Police have arrested suspects charged with two of the burglaries. Demar Anthony Brown, age 27, with no fixed address, and Jonathan Abraham Mulatu, age 20, of Baltimore, were arrested in Fairfax County, Va., Nov. 8.

The two are charged with two counts of first-degree burglary and are believed responsible for the Nov. 5 burglary at a residence in the 9800 block of Potomac Manors Drive and another Nov. 5 burglary at a residence in the 11200 block of River View Drive, according to a press release.

Because the suspects remain in the custody of Fairfax County police for a burglary committed in Fairfax County, Montgomery County Police have placed detainers on both suspects for the cases here.
