Plywood boards cover the damaged windows at after , apparently from a BB gun, on Monday.

The windows were shot out with a BB gun on the night before Passover, which began Monday at sunset.

"Maybe the suspects didn't realize the proximity to Passover, but for now, we are investigating it as a possible hate crime," said Officer Howard Hersh, a police spokesperson.

Police believe the vandalism is connected to two other instances of vandalism in the same timeframe. Police received calls on Monday morning about six windows that were shot out at Julius West Middle School and one window shot out at two nearby businesses --  all of which had bullets from a BB gun at the scene.

State police were assigned to stand guard outside the synagogue, according to a story on WAMU. Police were not a the synagogue when the pictures were taken.
