Armed Man Barricaded in Potomac Home Taken Into Custody

Montgomery County Police said incident was domestic related.

Update, Aug. 31 7:28 a.m.: An armed man who had barricaded himself in his home on the 8200 block of Coach Street in Potomac was taken into custody at 12:46 a.m., said Montgomery County Police spokeswoman Angela Cruz.

An emergency petition order was filed by police, Cruz said. The man was transported to the hospital for a psychiatric evaluation.

Police were called to the scene at 8:14 p.m., Aug. 30, due to a family dispute, Cruz said. Negotiations between the police and the man went on for more than four hours.

Cruz said that she does not believe anyone else was in the home during the incident.

No injuries were reported. It is not known if charges will be filed.

Update, Aug. 31 12:16 a.m.: Montgomery County Police report that negotiations are ongoing with a man who is believed to be armed inside a home on the 8200 block of Coach Street in Potomac.

Update, Aug. 30 11:08 p.m.: Montgomery County Police confirmed that the individual believed to be armed is a male.

The incident is domestic related, police said.

The police department's Emergency Response Team remains at the scene.

Update, Aug. 30 10:48 p.m.: Montgomery County Police continue to negotiate with an individual believed to be armed and sequestered in a home on the 8200 block of Coach Street in Potomac.

Original post, Aug. 30 10:06 p.m.: A person who is believed to be armed remains inside their home in the 8200 block of Coach Street in Potomac, according to a spokesperson for Montgomery County Police.

Police received a call at 8:13 p.m. They are currently are on the scene negotiating with the individual.
