Police Blotter: Thefts from Vehicles Feb. 22-23

A look at crime in Potomac from the past week.

Thefts from vehicles have been a concern the 1st District police force of Montgomery County has worked to combat and prevent; however the area was hit with a flurry of thefts from vehicles the last week of February.

Between Feb. 22 and Feb. 23 there were five instances of thefts from vehicles in Potomac -- one of which involved a suspect breaking a window to enter the car.

A theft from a vehicle occurred between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. in the 9700 block of Watts Branch Drive. The suspect broke the window in this case, however, nothing was taken from the car.

Three thefts from vehicles happened on 12000 block of Bartonshire Way in Potomac between 5:30 p.m. on Feb. 22 and 8 a.m. on Feb. 23. A suspect stole coins, an iPod and tennis shoes stolen from one car, while another car was missing $25 from the victim's wallet in the car. The third car was not missing anything.

The three cars on Bartonshire Way had left their doors unlocked when the thefts occurred.

A theft from a vehicle also happened on Old Canal Court between 10:45 p.m. on Feb. 22 and 6:45 a.m. on Feb. 23. The this case, the suspect stole two rolls of quarters and it is not known how the suspect got into the car.
