Police Investigate Drowning In Potomac River

The victim's body was recovered Thursday around 5:45 p.m., police said.

Montgomery County police are investigating a drowning that occurred Monday in the Potomac River, according to a news release.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services received a call Monday around 8 p.m. for the report of a possible drowning of a 22-year-old man in the Potomac River near the Great Falls overlook, police said.

The victim's body was recovered Thursday around 5:45 p.m., police said.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the victim was sitting in the water near the shore with friends when he decided to wade farther into the river, police said. The victim was swept downriver and Police and Fire Rescue units were called at that point.
