Police Working to Solve Thefts from Vehicles in Community, School

Thefts from vehicles happened in the community and at Bullis School in March.

Thefts from vehicles are a persisting problem in Potomac that the Montgomery County Police Department works to combat and prevent, however, their efforts couldn't prevent thefts from vehicles in the community and at a local school this month.

Police recently released information about one theft from a vehicle that occurred between 9 p.m. on March 20 and 8:54 a.m. on March 21 in the 8400 block of Tuckerman Lane. The suspect stole property and cash from the car, but police said they do not know how the suspect entered the car.

Another theft from a vehicle happened around the same time frame less than a mile away from the Tuckerman Lane theft.

Between 10:30 p.m. on March 20 and 4:30 a.m. on March 21 property was stolen from a car in the 11100 block of Powder Horn Drive. The suspect did not force entry into the car.

Also, police are still working to find any suspects involved in a theft from a vehicle that happened at  on March 5. A suspect stole a tote bag containing at 13-inch white Apple MacBook in a pink case and a hard drive storage unit from a vehicle parked near the Bullis Athletics Center between 9:30 a.m. and 9:40 a.m., said Anna Pfeiffer, whose daughter was driving the car.

The car’s passenger side window had been broken out as the car was locked, added Howard Herch, a police officer with the Montgomery County Police Department. The Pfeiffer family is offering a $1,000 “no questions asked” cash reward to the public for the return of either item. Please contact Anna Pfeiffer at 301-299-2113 or LPIVAnna@aol.com if you have any information that could help find either of these two items.

Bullis School released information about an additional theft from a vehicle that happened a little more than a week later, although Herch said a police report was not filed for the incident. Head of School Gerald Boarman sent out an e-mail notification on March 18 about a theft from a vehicle that occurred at the school on March 14.

The e-mail stated that a student’s backpack with computer, calculator and other valuables was stolen from the trunk of an unlocked car near the athletic center.

“This sad occurrence underscores the importance of never leaving your car unlocked on campus, and never leaving any valuables in sight in your car,” Boarman said in the e-mail.

Anyone with information about thefts from vehicles can call the Montgomery County Police tip line at 240-773-TIPS (8477) or 866-411-TIPS (8477). Tip can also be submitted online.
