Potomac Man Arrested In Connection With Armed Carjacking

Police say two suspects approached a food delivery driver and demanded his car at gunpoint.

A Potomac man has been arrested in connection with a Sunday night armed carjacking in Rockville.

Jose Maria Deduque, 20, of the 8500 block of Victory Lane in Potomac, and Kwajo Oteng-Agipong, 21, of Washington, DC, have been charged with armed carjacking, conspiracy to commit armed carjacking and motor vehicle theft after police say they threatened a food delivery worker and attempted to steal his car.

According to a Montgomery County police report, a food delivery driver and his passenger were making a delivery stop in the 1600 block of Yale Place in Rockville around 8:50 p.m. Sunday.

As the driver returned to his vehicle, two suspects demanded the car at gunpoint, police say.

One of the victims fled as the suspects entered the vehicle, according to police. The suspects were unable to operate the manual transmission car and then fled on foot, police said.

When police and K-9 units arrived, they located the suspects, along with a discarded backpack and a black semi-automatic replica BB gun they said belongs to one of the suspects.

Deduque and Oteng-Agipong are being held on bond and awaiting trial, according to police.
