Kayakers Safe After Fire/EMS Respond

Montgomery County Fire/EMS responded to a call involving two stranded kayakers.

Update, 9 p.m.: Montgomery County Fire/EMS units along with U.S. Park Police Eagle 2 conducted an assessment from the air in the area of Ten Foot Island in the Potomac River and found two kayakers who were able to safely exit their kayaks, Assistant Fire Chief Scott Graham said.

The kayakers were not in distress and were able to exit the river at Algonkian Regional Park.

The 911 call was classified as "a good intent call," Graham said.

Original post: Montgomery County Fire/EMS is en route to attempt a night river rescue on the Potomac River, according to Assistant Fire Chief Scott Graham.

Patch has an unconfirmed report that two kayakers are stranded on an island in the river.

The U.S. Park Police helicopter, Eagle 2, will be utilized as well as ground operations, Graham said. He noted that Fire/EMS will not launch a rescue boat after dark.

No units are on the scene as yet, Graham said, and added that once units are on the scene a tactical plan will be put together.
