Missing Potomac River Kayaker Found

The U.S. Park Service found the adult male on shore.

Update, 12:55 p.m.: The adult make kayaker was found uninjured and on shore by the U.S. Park Service, and he was escorted from the scene to his vehicle by U.S. Park Police, according to Assistant Chief Scott Graham, spokesman for Montgomery County Fire/Rescue.

The kayaker was reported to have fallen out of his kayak into the Potomac River and was heard to have yelled for help by witnesses at the scene, Graham said.

Original post, 12:47 p.m.: At approximately 11:30 a.m., Montgomery County Fire/Rescue responded to an area of the Potomac River near Angler's Inn for a report of a kayaker who had fallen out of his kayak into the river, according to Assistant Chief Scott Graham.

Witnesses on the scene report that they heard the kayaker yelling for help.

The Fire/Rescue river team launched shortly after 11:40 a.m., Graham said, adding that six boats are in the water along with Fairfax County Fire/Rescue personnel and U.S. Park Police Eagle 2 helicopter.

The rescue is ongoing, and a large area of the river is being searched for both the kayaker and the kayak, Graham said.
