Thefts from Vehicles Predominate in Early July

Seven thefts from Potomac area vehicles and a stolen car reported; two burglaries.

Thefts from vehicles in the Potomac area continued to dominate crimes reported from late June into July, according to information released by Montgomery County Police.

Seven thefts from vehicles and one stolen car were reported in the most recent crime summary, covering the period from June 27 through July 5. Two burglaries, both from residential garages, were also reported.

To prevent burglaries, police continue to advise making sure doors windows are doors are locked when no one is home, as well as alerting neighbors when out of town. Using timers on lights, radios and televisions will help to create the impression that someone is home. Remember also to confirm cars door are locked and valuable items removed.

Recently reported area crimes:

Four thefts from vehicles were reported in or near the Lake Normandy Estates area, taking place overnight June 29 - June 30:

  • A GPS was taken between midnight and 7:00 a.m. from a car in the 11100 block of Stackhouse Court. Vehicle doors had been left unlocked.
  • Two vehicles on Cherbourg Court were entered between 7:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. Nothing taken; cause of entry unknown.
  • A GPS was taken from a vehicle parked in a driveway in the 9100 block of Cherbourg Drive, between 11:05 p.m. and 6:40 a.m. Cause of entry unknown.
  • An iPod and a pair of sunglasses were taken from another car on Cherbourg Drive, in the 8900 block, between 9:30 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. Entry into vehicle was forced.

Three more thefts from vehicles were reported on July 1:

  • A wallet was taken from a car in the 10600 block of Beechknoll Lane., between 3:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Cause of entry is unknown.
  • A GPS was taken from a second vehicle in same block, between 9:44 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. Vehicle doors had been left unlocked.
  • A laptop computer was taken from a car in the 10400 block of Flowerfield Way, sometime after 7:00 a.m. Cause of entry is unknown.

Car theft:

  • A car was stolen from the 8000 block of Tuckerman Lane overnight July 2 - 3, between 9:00 p.m. and 9:00 a.m.

Burglaries:

  • A garage was broken into at a home in the 8700 block of Sleepy Hollow Lane, between 5:00 p.m. June 29 and 1:00 p.m. June 30. Entry was not forced but property was taken.
  • Another garage burglary took place at a home in the 11100 block of Lake Breeze Drive in North Potomac, between 4:00 a.m. and 4:15 a.m. on July T6/30. A vehicle was damaged but nothing was taken. Cause of entry is unknown.
