Two Paddlers Rescued From Potomac River

A multi-jurisdictional effort rescued the two men early this evening.

At approximately 3:30 p.m., Montgomery County Fire and Rescue was called to the Potomac River for a report of a kayaker or a canoeist who had been tossed from their canoe in the area of Swain's Lock (Lock 21), according to Assistant Chief Scott Graham, a spokesman with county fire and rescue.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue along with the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue and U.S. Park Police Eagle 1 (helicopter) launched a search for what turned out to be two males, approximately 65 and 18 years old, Graham said.

Both men were recovered at approximately 7:15 and 7:45 p.m. near the breaks on the Potomac River, Graham said. Both men were uninjured and were returned safely to shore.
