County Honors 16-Year-Old Potomac 'Hero'

Duncan Seguin's quick actions saved a referee's life in September.

Duncan Seguin, a junior at in Potomac, was honored Wednesday for his part in saving the life of a soccer referee in September.

A referee for a Olney Boys and Girls Soccer Club Labor Day Tournament game collapsed on a soccer field at Farquhar Middle School in Olney, Sept. 3, 2011. Seguin, a 16-year-old junior referee at the time, quickly went into action and began to administer CPR and chest compressions with the help of two parents on the sidelines. The referee was defibrillated twice in the medic unit on the way to the hospital and survived in part due to the quick response of Sequin, and soccer parents Lindsey Young and Chris Trainer.

Seguin was among a group of individuals honored as "Everyday Heroes," by county leaders including Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett and Fire Chief Richard Bowers.

Legget commended Seguin and the other honorees for their willingness to jump to action and help save lives.

“Each of you honored today summoned up extraordinary courage and were pivotal in the positive outcomes of life-threatening situations," Leggett said. "We are sincerely grateful for your remarkable service.”
