Dumais, Feldman and Miller win in District 15

The "Democratic Team" will advance to the general election

Incumbent State House Delegates Kathleen Dumais and Brian Feldman and candidate Aruna Miller handily won in the Democratic Primary race for District 15 House of Delegates Tuesday.

With all District 15 precincts reporting -- which includes Potomac, parts of North Potomac, Darnestown and upcounty -- and early votes counted, incumbents Dumais and Feldman both won about 30 percent of the votes.  Feldman had slightly more with 5939 and Dumais with 5768.  Miller came in third with 4427.

The District 15 Democratic Team gathered with family and friends at Beale Street Grill in Traville Gateway in Rockville on Tuesday evening.

"It is very encouraging, not just for myself but for Aruna and for Kathleen," Feldman said. "It's a strong result for our entire team."

Miller, a transportation engineer and a resident of Darnestown, sat with two of her three daughters, her husband, mother and close friends Tuesday evening, watching eagerly as her campaign manager reported the results from his iPhone.

"We'll celebrate for a week, and then it's back to work," said Miller, who spent the summer campaigning with her family. "It's been a team effort."

Incumbent Dumais said she did not have much time to celebrate either.

"I have to go to work tomorrow. I have three client meetings," said Dumais, a divorce lawyer. "I'm very happy for Aruna. We will once again be the best delegation in Annapolis."

Voter turnout was low at polls across the district, and Feldman said he found that disappointing.

"The conditions were good, but people were not motivated to come out. There was a lack of high-profile races," Feldman said.
