Glenstone To Move Forward With Sewer Extension

The Montgomery County Council unanimously approved the extension Tuesday.

The Glenstone Foundation has received the county's go-ahead for a controversial sewer extension.

The Montgomery County Council unanimously approved the request Tuesday despite opposition by the county planning board and some citizen groups.

The Council, in a straw vote, indicated July 17 that it would to install a 3,000-foot sewer extension on the property that would facilitate an expansion of the 25,000-square-foot gallery. The decision was officially put forth Tuesday with all Council members in favor of the extension, according to Council spokesman Neil Greenberger.

The foundation museum, run by billionaire Mitchell Rales and located off Glen Road in Potomac, houses a critically acclaimed collection of post-World War II art. Rales is planning the addition of a new, 125,000-square-foot building.

According to Council documents, because the request is for non-residential purposes, the WSSC will require Glenstone to pay all sewer extension costs.
