Landscaping Company Donating Potomac Library's Walkway Repairs

The Potomac Library's main entrance will undergo repairs on Wednesday.

A landscaping company will begin work to repair part of ’s main walkway on Wednesday after well-worn parts were in need of improvements.

Allentuck Landscaping, a landscaping company based in Clarksburg, is donating the labor and materials to upgrade the walk — a major help as libraries throughout the county face budget cuts and staff reductions. For the fourth year in a row, the Potomac Library is facing cuts in its budget.

Allentuck Landscaping will replace some of the brick and slate pavers leading to the library’s main entrance as a community service project, said Lindsey Hundt, the agency manager for the Potomac Library.

Parts of the walkway are wearing down and some seniors with walkers complained that is was becoming hazardous, according to a news release from the Montgomery County Friends of the Library. When Bruce Allentuck, owner of Allentuck Landscaping, visited Potomac Library, he said he also noticed the need for repair.

“The community has graciously supported Allentuck Landscaping for 24 years. It is our belief that giving back is not only a good way to say thank you, but also our responsibility as a member of the community,” Allentuck said in a news release.

The Potomac Chapter of the Friends of the Library and the Potomac Garden Club have worked with Allentuck Landscaping in the past to provide landscaping services to the Potomac Library.

“Friends of the Library is grateful to Allentuck Landscaping for their generosity and corporate goodwill to their neighbors in need,” Ari Brooks, the executive director for the Montgomery County Friends of the Library, said in the release. “Through creative public-private initiatives such as this, we can provide an example for other businesses to lend support to the library community.”

The repairs to the walkway are a great way to make the Potomac Library look its best, Hundt said.

“The improvements will certainly help it look nice,” she said. “It’ a beautiful piece of property and it’s another enhancement to make it look better.”
