Palin Endorses Bongino for Senate

The former Alaska governor releases a written statement in support of Dan Bongino's bid against incumbent Sen. Ben Cardin.

Dan Bongino, the Republican candidate for Senate from Severna Park, got some support from Alaska on Monday when former Gov. Sarah Palin endorsed him.

"Though political pundits often dismiss conservative candidates running in deep blue states, I don't believe in ignoring good candidates simply because they're fighting uphill battles against the odds," Palin said in a press release. "In fact, I find such candidates incredibly brave and especially worthy of encouragement."

The odds of Bongino defeating incumbent Sen. Ben Cardin (D-MD) this November are slim. Real Clear Politics and Roll Call both mark Maryland's Senate race in their safely Democratic columns, and Cardin has outraised the former secret service agent by more than 10 to one when it comes to contributions, according to Open Secrets.

Patch reported in July that Bongino is hoping an will help him take on the Cardin machine.

Palin said, "We also owe it to voters in every state—even the deep blue ones—to support good candidates for office so that they have a genuine choice in November. That is why I'm honored to announce my support for Dan Bongino in his Senate race in the 'deep blue state' of Maryland."

In fact, Maryland has not sent a Republican to the U.S. Senate in 25 years.

Bongino said in a press release that he sought the support of the former vice presidential candidate and is honored to receive it.

"I am a political outsider, and I have constructed my campaign around the idea that public office is a sacred trust placed in our elected officials by the citizenry," Bongino said. "That sacred trust has been broken, and I am making an ironclad promise to the citizens of Maryland to restore it."

Now, the question is: Will Palin make an appearance in Maryland before the election?

Frank...sorry...it's just my nature...first step to any restoration project is to remove to rot. I view this blog as a kind of restoration project in that several opportunities exist for me. First~ the opportunity to engage in some semblance of meaningful conversationto attempt to understand and hopefully contribute to potential solutions to the many problems that our society and country endure. Second~ To actively seek out the rot that seems to hinder the first, if you are a part of the rot....I'll let you know it....it's all a part of an existing condition survey being conducted on the Patch blogs....actually very interesting stuff from my park bench perspective... poo away...have a great day!
