Potomac Library Closes Out Read Across Md. Events in County

The Cuddleups Story Time at Potomac Library is the last suggested library event for the Read Across Maryland event.

is rounding out a state initiative to get kids reading for 30 minutes for 30 days during the month of March.

The Read Across Maryland campaign works with the Maryland State Education Association, the Maryland Library Association and the Maryland Association of School Librarians to improve literacy in children, by encouraging kids to read for 30 minutes every day from March 2 to March 31. 

Children who complete a reading log and share their experiences on the Read Across Maryland website, are eligible to win a Barnes and Noble Nook or a $25 Barnes and Noble gift card.

Potomac Library’s on Thursday is the last suggested opportunity in Montgomery County to get in the required reading time at the library, according to the website. The story time, which takes place from 10:30 a.m. until 11 a.m., is an event filled with stories and songs for babies — infants to 11 months — and their caregivers. Registration is not required.

This year marks the third Read Across Maryland month. For the second year in a row, Gov. Martin O’Malley (D) and Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown (D) are partnering with state education and reading agencies to promote kids reading with educators, parents or librarians.
