Potomac Man Goes to Trial in Cuba in March

Alan Gross could face up to 20 years in prison.

A Potomac man could face up to 20 years in a Cuban prison for his involvement in crimes against the security of the Cuban state.

Alan Gross, a 61-year-old from Potomac, goes to trial on March 4 after being accused of allegedly smuggling in satellite communications devices that the Cuban law prohibits, according to a CBS news story.

Gross worked for a company that subcontracted a U.S. Agency for International Development to help bring regime change to Cuba when he was arrested in 2009, according to the story. Gross has been in a Cuban prison for the last 15 months.

Gross said he was only working to provide internet access to nearby Jewish groups to increase communication, according to the story.

The United States government is working to have Gross released from Cuba.
