Report: County Workers Save Taxpayers $430K in 3 Years

An incentive program encourages Montgomery County government employees to come up with cost-saving plans—and sometimes they work.

Taxpayers in Montgomery County have government employees to thank for $430,000 in savings, according to The Washington Post’s “Capital Business” blog.

“Rewarding Excellence” is an incentive program that challenges county government workers to come up with proposals on how to save the county money. If their plan actually works, employees can receive up to $5,000.

“This is not just like a suggestion box. Employees get trained in how to work together and how to identify problems,” Joseph Adler, the county’s director of human resources, told the newspaper.
