“The Brain-Friendly Classroom”

What should educational leaders, teachers and parents do to help all children meet their potential as learners? Visit St. Andrew's Jan. 12, 2012 at 7 p.m. for "The Brain-Friendly Classroom," a discussion about raising exceptional learners led by Dr. Luke Rinne of Johns Hopkins University and Glenn Whitman, Director of St. Andrew's Center for Transformative Teaching and Learning.

Leading the conversation will be Rinne, a postdoctoral fellow in the Neuro-Educational Initiative in the School of Education at Johns Hopkins University. Also participating in the discussion will be Glenn Whitman, Director of the Center for Transformative Teaching and Learning at St. Andrew's and Dresden Koons, head of St. Andrew's Lower School. Johns Hopkins and St. Andrew's, partnering to host this conversation, have previously worked together on workshops geared toward understanding cutting-edge neuro-science and applying it to instructional practices for teachers and students. At St. Andrew's, 100 percent of faculty and educational leaders are trained to understand how learning happens.

The event will tackle topics such as what administrators, teachers and parents should do to help all children meet their potential as learners. St. Andrew's faculty will also discuss how research and neuro-educational findings inform the creation of brain-friendly classrooms from preschool through grade 12 at St. Andrew's.
