Hoover Middle School Receives $14K from Giant Foods

in Potomac will receive a donation of just over $14,000 from Giant Food this year.

Giant Food of Landover, Md., is presenting nearly $2 million to schools in Maryland, Virginia, Washington, D.C., and Delaware as part of the chain’s 2011-2012 A+ School Rewards program. Throughout Maryland 1,307 schools will receive more than $1.2 million.

Herbert Hoover Middle School will use the funds to purchase Rolling Computer Mini Labs, according to a Montgomery County Schools spokesman.

“These ‘mini labs’ are portable carts that hold a certain amount of computers/laptops. It provides more children with access to computer and writing activities,” said Gboyinde Onijala of MCPS.

The labs will be used for English and writing workshops, as well as special education support.

"Giant is very proud to support 1,307 Maryland schools and give back to the communities we're so privileged to serve," said Anthony Hucker, president, Giant Food of Landover, Md.

The A+ School Rewards program began October 9, 2011, and ran through March 31, 2012. During that time, points accrued based upon purchases made by customers who selected a school to support. At the end of the time period the points were tallied and the cash awards were calculated.
