MCPS Class of 2011 Tallies More than $230 Million in Scholarships

There could be more to come.

The dust has yet to settle, but so far the Montgomery County Public Schools Class of 2011 has earned $232.8 million in college scholarships.

The amount was more that the Class of 2010 accumulated and the total value of scholarships earned is expected to grow over the next few weeks as final data are gathered, MCPS said.

The scholarships were a substantial monetary return on that learning investment, Outgoing MCPS Superintendent Jerry Weast said.

The Class of 2011 also produced: 

  • 145 National Merit Finalists
  • 34 National Hispanic Recognition Finalists
  • 16 National Achievement Finalists  
  • 91 Maryland Distinguished Scholar Finalists  
  • 152 Ivy League school acceptances
