Potomac Teen Wins National Writing Award

Ruthie Prillaman also won a $1,000 Busboys & Poets scholarship.

A seventeen-year-old Potomac native was recently awarded a $1,000 “Busboys and Poets Scholarship” for the top senior portfolio in the Greater Washington region.

Ruthie Prillaman, currently a senior at Richard Montgomery High School, will start at Yale University in the fall. She is also one of 13 students from the metro-area who were honored as National Medalists through the Scholastic Awards. National Medals are awarded to the top 1 percent of short stories, plays, poetry and essays chosen from over 200,000 submissions nationwide.
