High-Profile Golf Championship Organizers to Tweet During Tournament

The Mid-Atlantic Championship—which takes place at the TPC Potomac golf course at Avenel Farm starting May 27—will offer a series of tips—called "Fore U"—on social media to help followers make sense of the sport.

Golf enjoys strong popularity among area residents. With several good golf courses in the area, and a couple tournaments coming up, it's both a spectator sport and an active sport in Potomac.

But for those just starting out, the terminology can be tricky. To help with that, the Mid-Atlantic Championship—a premier stop on the Web.com Tour and which takes place at the TPC Potomac golf course at Avenel Farm from May 27 through June 2—is offering a series of tips—called "Fore U"—that will be passed along each day of the tournament on its Facebook (www.facebook.com/machampionship) and Twitter (twitter.com/MidAtlantChamp) pages, according to a news statement from the tournament's organization.

"The Fore U concept was developed to provide a variety of insider information of what to expect at the 2013 Mid-Atlantic Championship for first-time attendees as well as regular golf fans that attend pro golf events," the statement reported.

"Our goal is to use Fore U as an easy way for us to communicate the many interesting details about our tournament for people who are new to attending golf events as well as golfers who are veteran fans," Teo Sodeman, Mid-Atlantic Championship tournament director, said.

"The Fore U program will inform fans about everything from the the best places to watch at TPC Potomac to Things to Do for families at the tournament," he added.

The Web.com Tour is the official path to the Professional Golfers' Association Tour, and identifies players "ready to compete and win on golf's greatest stage," according to a news statement on TPC's website.

In related news, another high-profile golf tournament coming up in the area is the 2013 AT&T National at Congressional Country Club, from June 27 through 30, in which Tiger Woods will play, Patch reported.

Woods won the tournament last year, when it also was held at Congressional.

"I’m really looking forward to defending my title at the AT&T National," Woods told mymcmedia.com. "The Washington, DC, community has been so supportive of the tournament, and I’m excited to play Congressional Country Club."
