Potomac Student Competes In National Geographic Bee

The winner of the National Geographic Bee will receive a $25,000 scholarship.

Susanna Yau, an 8th grade student at the , won the school-level competition of the National Geographic Bee on Friday, Dec. 2, 2011. Yau will now move on to compete with students around the country for a chance at a $25,000 college scholarship and a trip to the Galapagos Islands.

The school-level competition, at which students answered oral questions on geography, was the first round in the 24th annual National Geographic Bee.

Next up for Yau is a written test. The top 100 scorers on that test in each state will then be eligible to compete in their state bee March 30, 2012. After the state competition, lucky winners will have an all-expense paid trip to Washington D.C. and the final competition, moderated by (this is the best part) "Jeopardy!"'s Alex Trebek on May 24.
