Third Annual Fast Break Basketball Camp Combines Skills, Fun for Young Players

Three-time "Coach of the Year" recipient and Churchill's Basketball Head Coach Matt Miller will lead this summer basketball camp.

Basketball is all fun and games at Fast Break Basketball Camp lead by Boys Basketball Head Coach Matt Miller.

The summer camp, which is now in its third year, is not only a way for kids to improve their basketball skills, but also have fun and learn about the importance of sportsmanship.

Campers spend their six-hour day practicing ball handling, free throws, dribbling, defense, low post moves, shooting and rebounding. The fun-filled and stimulating summer camp helps kids who are entering second grade through ninth grade develop the skills and fundamentals of basketball while learning teamwork and having a great time.

Miller, who recently received three different , will lead the camp with the help of Assistant Coach Kevin Jones, and JV Coach Mike Lovitt. Other local high school coaches, high school players and college players also staff the camp. The team of leaders provide interesting games, contests and exciting activities while reinforcing the importance of positive attitude and motivation, Miller said.

“We get the opportunity to observe the young ballplayers grow and to see our Churchill ballplayers work with the younger kids. This is also a chance for the high school players to give back to the community,” Miller said. “Many of the campers come to all the high school games and cheer on these players. In the summer, our players get to be a ‘rock-star’ with the little ones. Everybody wins!”
