A Day to Honor, Celebrate C&O Canal Families

Does your family tree include a few bargemen? A lockhouse master or two? Hancock will host Canal families for shared story time Saturday.

The areas surrounding Potomac, Glen Echo and Cabin John have a long history associated with the Potomac River and the C&O Canal.

The area stretching the 185 miles from Georgetown to Cumberland was home to thousands of families who dedicated their lives to the operation of the region’s famous waterways. For those families still living here, the National Park Service on Saturday will host a reunion of canal families featuring float competitions, a parade, live music, vendors and history.
