By Patch Editor Greg Cohen

An annual tradition, the 65th Montgomery County Agricultural Fair opens at 3 p.m. Friday at the county fairgrounds in Gaithersburg.

Beginning Saturday, the fairgrounds will be open from 10 a.m. to midnight through Aug. 17. Among the attractions are carnival rideslive entertainmentanimalsfood and vendors, and more.

New to the fair this year is an updated Old MacDonald's Barn, The Gazette reported. “It’s the newest, biggest, reddest barn on the property,” said Marty Svrcek, executive director of the fair, according to the report. The barn replaces the previous pair of barns, which had been used nearly as long as the fair has been running.

A longtime fair favorite will be trying to set a record. Ed Hogan, aka “The Big Cheese,” is on a quest to build and serve a record number of grilled cheese sandwiches during the fair’s nine-day run.
