COLESVILLE – Police are looking for a man and woman they believe convinced an 87-year-old woman to give them $20,000 in cash and jewelry. The scam artists confronted the woman near Giant in White Oak and tricked her into withdrawing cash from her bank account and giving them jewelry from her home. .

GAITHERSBURG – Montgomery County police are investigating a shooting and multiple stabbing in a fight that quickly escalated outside a Gaithersburg cafe early Sunday. Police said nearly 100 people were involved in the altercation that broke out inside, and migrated outside, the  at 385 Muddy Branch Road in the Festival Shopping Center around 1:30 a.m. Sunday. .

Suspect Wanted for Silver Spring Barbershop Fire

SILVER SPRING – A long-time Silver Spring barbershop was gutted by fire early Thursday and arson investigators are searching for a man who was seen in front of the store with a baseball bat shortly before the blaze erupted. Read more on Silver Spring Patch.

Council OKs $38 Million for North Potomac Community Center

NORTH POTOMAC -- The Montgomery County Council has authorized spending $38 million to build a new community center in North Potomac. Most of the funding for the 33,000-square-foot facility, slated for Mills Farm and Travilah Roads, would come from General Obligation bonds, county records show. Read more at North Potomac Patch.



TAKOMA PARK – Despite a delay which caused Takoma Park's Fourth of July fireworks display to be staged a day late, the Takoma Park Independence Day Committee will be using the same company for this year's display.

GAITHERSBURG – A handwritten note on bright yellow paper reading "Temperly Closed Thank-You" (sic) was taped to the inside of 's front door Monday, a day after  "One minute it was totally calm and the next minute it just busted out into a riot," a security guard told reporters. .

GERMANTOWN — A teen girl reported missing by her adoptive family in Germantown may have traveled to Michigan to find her biological parents, a Montgomery County Police spokeswoman told Patch. Victoria White, 16, was reported missing on April 27. Read more at .

Montgomery County Leaders: Maryland Already Health Care Leader

Maryland leaders have had the chance to absorb the : The Supreme Court, in a split decision, has upheld the individual mandate that requires the purchase of insurance as a tax. While Marylanders apparently have mixed feelings about the ruling, the response among Montgomery County leaders was upbeat. Read more at Germanotwn Patch.

CHEVY CHASE – County planning staff recommendations for development in the  are ready for public review, and will be presented to the county planning board on July 16. Planning staff have recommended that 250,000 square feet of development, with building heights up to 70 feet, be permitted in the sector before the Purple Line is built through the sector. Once the Purple Line is underway, the development cap would be raised to 750,000 square feet, and building heights of up to 90 feet would be permitted.

POTOMAC -- With Tiger Woods in town this week for the AT&T National Golf Tournament, Potomac residents and local businesses have been preparing for an influx of visitors. 

BETHESDA -- Driving along River Road near this week, you’ll probably find yourself stuck in a little more traffic than usual as cars pack the road trying to find parking for the AT&T National golf tournament. .

WHEATON -- Montgomery County's Department of General Services is accelerating the schedule for the renovation of Wheaton Library by not holding a design competition. Some in Wheaton say the county is cutting the community out of the design process; others say that expediting the project is necessary to replace the old facilities as soon as possible.
